Summary: In the third edition of the Green Signal project we made masks with carton cardboard. AnantU students had done a workshop on making things with cardboard with Ajinkiya Barde (Sadhu) - an artist from Baroda who works with cardboard and other surplus waste materials.
How do you have a dialogue with the other? How do you learn and unlearn at the same time? How do you move from a research to research, action and reflection cycle, which leads to deeper understanding of the other and self. And brings forth a solution that is designed but retains spontaneity in the process. The question of design and spontaneity is critical for a process to be open to listening, adapting and weaving things together.
Students of semester - 4 of Interaction Design as part of their User Research course realised Green Signal 3.0 project. They worked with a specific brief by Municipal Corporation, to create a vocational training module for Signal School Children. They underwent a short training by themselves to devise a module of turning waste into sculptural forms, specifically masks. This created a new form of learning. Teachers of Signal School appreciated that the process helped them and their students learn from a new perspective.
Stay tuned to see how IxD students turn this project into more substantial design project.
